Vickie van Dyke

150 word bio

Vickie’s career history is both colourful and creative. Armed with an Honours BA in Drama from the University of Waterloo she performed in summer stock musical theatre before joining a touring pop group. Eventually she formed her own country rock band, giving her an opportunity to write and record many of her own compositions. Vickie then segued into country radio. She was heard on 820 CHAM-Hamilton for ten years and also pre-recorded a midday pop show for a sister station in London. She hosted her own television variety show while writing for television, radio and newspaper. Currently the midday host at Smooth Jazz WAVE 94.7 (Hamilton), Vickie still loves to sing and performs regularly with her jazz quartet. She’s also been writing - commercials, original songs, a cabaret-style musical and a romance novel! In April/05 she was thrilled to be named the first ever Canadian Smooth Jazz Broadcaster Of The Year.

Vickie van Dyke was singing before she was talking (according to her mother). She has written and recorded many of her own compositions but her number one love is performing live. Since turning to a career in radio, Vickie hosted her own television show and found time to write more songs and for television, radio and newspaper. Currently the midday host at WAVE 94.7 (Smooth Jazz - Hamilton), Vickie was named Broadcaster Of The Year at the 2005 Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards. Her off-the-cuff wit, confident presence and versatile voice combine to create an unforgettably entertaining radio show or musical evening.
